DC Comics is home to a vast array of superheroes, and now they've finally revealed the four kinds of groups their beloved characters fall under!

The comic company known as DC Comics houses some of the most well-liked and recognizable superheroes of all time, and now they’ve finally revealed the four types of heroes that populate their universe! Sure, Batman, Superman, and their super colleagues are all different in their own unique ways, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be classified for easy reference!
Revealed in the final chapter of the six-issue limited series titled One-Star Squadron, by Mark Russell and Steve Lieber, this series has focused on a handful of DC Comics heroes who aren’t as well-known or integral to the DC Universe as the fabled members of the Justice League. Continuing to follow Red Tornado as he works at a gig-based small business called HEROZ4U, this particular issue finds Red Tornado looking for clues as to where one of his former employees, Minute Man, has gone.
Tracking down other former employees to get as much info on Minute Man as possible, Tornado finds a C-list hero named G.I. Robot who has taken up teaching about the various ins and outs of the superhero community after the tragic downfall of HEROZ4U. Patiently waiting outside his classroom, Tornado overhears G.I. Robot mention the “four major groups of superheroes,” with G.I.’s students giving answers that officially reveal to fans what they are.
Shouting out “alien savior,” “tech soldier,” “science-accident survivor,” and finally “rich guy,” or as it’s later clarified, “vigilante,” this short and sweet conversation brings to light what the main hero classes are in the DC Universe. And although G.I.’s class ends before he can delve further into these intriguing categorizations, it’s easy to expound and speculate on which hero belongs in which group.
Obvious that “alien savior” refers to heroes like DC’s cosmic immigrant, Superman, the last survivor of Mars, Martian Manhunter, or technically even the majority of the aliens that make up the colorful Green Lantern Corps, it doesn’t take much thought to figure out what other heroes fill out these remaining classes. Moving onto “tech soldiers,” characters like Cyborg, Red Tornado, Jaime Reyes’ version of Blue Beetle (his scarab is a complicated piece of alien tech, to say the least), and more all fall into this group, while “science-accident survivors” bundles Flash, Swamp Thing, Firestorm, and any other science-based hero kicking it in the DC Universe together. Finally, the “vigilante” group consists of the original “rich guy,” Batman, similarly rich hero, Green Arrow, and the entire collection of other non-powered characters who take it upon themselves to don a costume and take the law into their own hands.
So while there are no doubt a few more lesser-known categories DC’s characters could be placed under, these big four are the ones the company considers to be their “main” hero groups. DC Comics will always have great stories to tell, it’s just a matter of which type of superhero fits the bill!
