There's a lot to say about the iPhone 13. It has a sleek design, blazing-fast performance, and excellent battery. But does it also have MagSafe?
Apple's MagSafe accessory system was a vital feature of the iPhone 12 series in 2020, but is it still present on the latest iPhone 13 handsets? Although it didn't reinvent the iPhone formula, the iPhone 12 lineup brought many notable upgrades to Apple's iconic smartphone. It introduced the 'mini' model and 5G for the first time, revived the flat-edged design not used since the iPhone 5S, and brought MagSafe to the iPhone. As far as annual iPhone upgrades go, the iPhone 12 made sure its changes were immediately noticeable.
That brings us to the iPhone 13. The iPhone 13 series is the latest Apple has to offer, and in some ways, the lineup is very familiar. The overall design is virtually identical, the new A15 chip uses the same 5nm architecture as the A14, and there doesn't appear to be anything dramatically different compared to the iPhone 12. That changes upon closer inspection, however. Although the iPhone 13 doesn't seem all that exciting at a glance, numerous upgrades dramatically improve the day-to-day experience. All iPhone 13 models have substantially longer battery life, improved cameras, smaller notches, and 120Hz displays on the two Pro variants.
On top of all this, the iPhone 13 also supports MagSafe accessories. Whether someone buys an iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, or iPhone 13 Pro Max, all four iPhones work with MagSafe just like the iPhone 12 models. It's an aspect of the phones that goes unnoticed given all of their other improvements, but Apple made sure to keep MagSafe around for another year.
How MagSafe Works On The iPhone 13
If you're new to MagSafe, the accessory system is easy to use, convenient, and a lot of fun. The back of every iPhone 13 has a series of magnets that work with cases, chargers, etc. MagSafe-compatible accessories line up with these magnets, securely attach to the back of the iPhone, and it opens up a new door of possibilities not found with other smartphones. One of the best MagSafe accessories is Apple's MagSafe Charger. Rather than having to plug in the Lightning cable to charge the iPhone 13, just place it on top of the MagSafe Charger to start refueling instantly. It uses the same Qi wireless charging standard iPhones have supported for years now, but the magnets on the MagSafe Charger ensure the iPhone gets a perfect alignment every single time. It also allows you to keep using the iPhone even when it's connected — something not possible with traditional wireless chargers.
The Best MagSafe Accessories For The iPhone 13
But The MagSafe Charger only scratches the surface of what you can do with MagSafe on the iPhone 13. Another great accessory is Apple's MagSafe Battery Pack. It's a portable battery you attach to the back of the iPhone 13 to give it extra juice while on the go. If the $100 price tag's too much to swallow, there are cheaper alternatives from Anker, Mophie, and OtterBox.
Another personal favorite is Apple's Leather Wallet with MagSafe. It's an ultra-slim wallet that magnetically connects to your iPhone 13 and holds up to three cards at a time. It even works with the Find My app, alerting you of its last location whenever you take it off. There are also MagSafe tripods, phone grips, camera mounts, car holders, and more. These are all accessories you can use without MagSafe, but having that extra magnetic connection makes them all the more useful than their non-MagSafe counterparts.
MagSafe is also present in all of Apple's iPhone 13 cases. Placing a MagSafe case on an iPhone 13 does a couple of things: It plays a little animation mimicking the case color when it's applied, and it uses the magnets to offer an even more secure fit than before. MagSafe cases also use their magnets to be compatible with additional MagSafe accessories — including all the ones mentioned above. So long as someone has a case with MagSafe built-in, they can keep using all of their MagSafe accessories like normal.
