American Idol's Madison Watkins reveals a scary encounter that involved two men pulling a gun on her while she was in her car. She managed to escape.
American Idol contestant Madison Watkins revealed that she managed to escape a scary situation after two men pulled a gun on her while she was in her car. The singer auditioned for season 19 of the long-running reality competition series by performing an original song called "Your Little Girl" for American Idol judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie. All three were impressed by her song and delivery, with Bryan going so far as to call her the "whole package."
Throughout her American Idol journey, Watkins took on such songs as James Brown's "It's A Man's Man's Man's World," Stevie Wonder's "Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing," Drake's "Hotline Bling" and Whitney Houston's "Run To You." Unfortunately, she was not chosen by the viewers during the Top 16. But she got a reprieve when the judges chose her and Beane for their two Judges' Save picks. That second chance only lasted one more week, though, as both she and Beane were eliminated the following Sunday along with Ava August.
Now the American Idol alum is sharing a scary situation that she went through. Watkins revealed on Instagram that she escaped after two men attempted to hold her up at gunpoint. "About a month and a half ago, I was sitting outside of a friend's house on the phone, when two men came up to my car and pulled a gun on me. By the grace of God, my doors were locked and my car was on, so I put my foot on the gas and got away." She's not quite sure what their motive was, but they "had the opportunity" to shoot or "break into my car."
Watkins was hesitant to share this story on social media because she didn't want people to draw the wrong conclusions like "trying to receive some type of sympathy," and she didn't want to scare her American Idol fans. But her desire to "be real" with her fans is what ultimately motivated her to go ahead with posting about it. As she explained, "It just felt fake to keep posting me living 'my best life' without sharing what I'm actually going through."
That's quite a frightening encounter for American Idol's Watkins to go through. Her doors being locked prevented the men from intruding, and her car being turned on helped her to quickly escape. Despite all that, they still could have shot at her but didn't. Like Watkins mentioned, she didn't know what their motives were, but it may have been the case that they wanted to steal her car to get away from whatever situation they were in. Fortunately for Watkins, everything worked in her favor, and she managed to escape. It's unclear if the singer filed a police report. Hopefully, the two men can be found and arrested so no one else finds themselves in a similar situation.
