The Netflix thriller features all kinds of twists and turns, along with two baddies who may not be immediately recognizable to streamers. The film also includes a supporting performance from up-and-coming Native American actress Amber Midthunder, who portrays an indigenous Canadian character who is unfairly judged because of her ethnicity.
Written and directed by Jonathan Hensleigh, The Ice Road follows a North Dakota big rig driver, Mike McCann (Neeson), who seeks work after losing his job. Mike also takes care of his mechanic brother, Gurty, who previously suffered brain damage during the Iraq War. When a methane explosion kills eight miners and traps 26 more underground in the Netflix movie, Mike accepts a $50,000 gig that involves delivering a wellhead to Northern Manitoba while driving a big rig over several frozen bodies of water. Along the way, he learns that one of his collaborators plans to sabotage the mission in order to protect his insurance company.
The Ice Road cast includes big names such as Neeson and Laurence Fishburne, both of whom are well-known in pop culture for iconic movie roles. Plus, supporting actor Holt McCallany is also a relatively big star, even if he's not necessarily a household name after starring in Mindhunter. In the future, The Ice Road may not only be remembered for its spectacular action sequences, but also for its inclusion of Cree siblings who are manipulated by malicious businessmen.
Liam Neeson As Mike McCann
Liam Neeson stars as Mike, a North Dakota big rig driver who leads the wellhead mission. He's initially motivated by money, but then changes his opinion when the job becomes personal. Neeson starred as Oskar Schindler in Schindler's List and Ottway in The Grey. His other roles include Qui-Gon Jinn in the Star Wars franchise and Bryan Mills in the Taken movie series.
Marcus Thomas As Gurty
Marcus Thomas co-stars as Gurty, Mike's brother who suffers from aphasia after being injured in Iraq. He's lost several jobs in the past because of his condition, yet he's an efficient and skilled mechanic. Thomas portrayed Jeff Dearly in Drowning Mona and Stef Krzeminski in You Kill Me. He also appeared as Billy McComber in Kill the Irishman and Carl in The Forger.
Laurence Fishburne As Jim Goldenrod
Laurence Fishburne portrays Jim Goldenrod, a Winnipeg native who organizes the wellhead mission. He's a characteristic leader but unfortunately gets targeted in a cover-up scandal. Fishburne starred as Morpheus in The Matrix movies and portrayed Jack Crawford in Hannibal. He's also well known for roles as Tyrone "Clean" Miller in Apocalypse Now and Furious Styles in Boyz n the Hood.
Amber Midthunder As Tantoo
Amber Midthunder appears as Tantoo, Goldenrod's Cree driver who is bailed out of jail after being arrested for protesting and throwing rocks. She hopes to rescue her brother Cody Mantooth, who is trapped in a mine, but learns that she's the fall person in a corporate conspiracy. Midthunder portrayed Kerry Loudermilk in Legion and Rosa Ortecho in Roswell, New Mexico. She also appeared as Lana Cleary in Banshee and Vernon Teller in Hell or High Water.
Benjamin Walker As Varnay
Benjamin Walker portrays Tom Varnay, a risk-assessment professional from Katka International Insurance Group who rides along with Tantoo. He's later revealed to be a villain who essentially functions as a fixer for a Katka project manager. Walker portrayed Harlon Block in Flags of our Fathers and the title character in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. He also appeared as Erik Gelden in Jessica Jones and Terrance Randall in The Underground Railroad.

Matt McCoy as Sickle: Katka's general manager who attempts to cover up the true reason for the mine explosion. Matt McCoy portrayed Lloyd Braun in Seinfeld and Pete Monahan in Silicon Valley.
